Online Nature Journaling for the Classroom

Online Nature Journaling for the Classroom

Join an exciting, online ecological adventure with your budding citizen scientists in Grades 2 - 6!

Explore Ontario's plants and wildlife by combining environmental science, art and language. Our thematic classes are based on Ontario's 2022 Elementary Science and Technology Curriculum.

Each 75-minute class explores a unique theme and a variety of plants and wildlife through original photo and video footage. Students closely examine two species and create two nature journal pages with sketches, labels, fun facts and questions.

Live and interactive, step-by-step sketching and note-making instruction is taught appropriate to your grade. Fun-filled activity sheets are included to support each class.

Program Objectives
The skills and knowledge students gain include:

- observing and identifying important features of habitats, animals and plants;
- investigating the similarities and differences between species;
- exploring how plants are important for food and shelter;
- examining the roles and interactions of species in the ecosystem;
- using key vocabulary to label sketches and record observations.

Supplies required: pencil, paper and eraser for each student.
